If you live in Brisbane tune your television to Channel 9 for "Extra" at 5:30pm on Wednesday the 2nd of April if you'd like to see Brianna's lovely face on the box once again! Brianna will be talking about her involvement with the Hear and Say Fundraising Appeal. You may even hear a little bit of her new song "Hush" that she wrote especially for the charity.
Did you know that butterflies are completely deaf?

If you're in Brisbane on March 31st, be sure to head to the Queen St Mall at 10am for a special event. The Hear and Say Centre are launching their major fundraising appeal for the year and Brianna has come onboard as the ambassador. She will be giving a special performance of a song that she has written especially for the charity, as well as wearing some lovely butterfly wings. The charity does absolute wonders for children suffering from hearing loss and Brianna has been so inspired by their work.
Head to the News  and Press sections for more information on the Charity and Brianna's involvement.
It is hard to put your finger on exactly what it is about Brianna Carpenter's voice that is so pleasing to the ear, but there is something about her vocal timbre that is impossible to ignore. Brianna Carpenter remembers her childhood and the times she used to play Barbies whilst listening to Elton John who became her first musical influence. Ever since then Brianna has been fascinated by song writing and has developed through other musical influences such as Jeff Buckley, Jamie Cullum, Ben Folds Five and Bic Runga. Brianna now creates a mix of Folky Alternative Pop. Even though she was born completely deaf in one ear this has not stopped Brianna’s drive to compose. Brianna began song writing at the age of 13 and after writing her first real song "The Web" people started to recognize her talent. Her stage pursuits have also stretched into musical theatre, acting and pantomime that was a great way to gain invaluable lessons in stagecraft.

Brianna is not from an overly musical background but believes her creative flair has come from her Mother, who is a fashion illustrator and artist. Brianna and her Mother design a lot of the outfits that Brianna wears onstage and work together to create the artwork for her albums and stage design.

In 2005 Brianna traveled to Europe to experience other cultures and take herself out of her comfort zone. She traveled to 13 countries alone at the age of 19. She was inspired by a variety of crazy characters from her journeys and has been writing and gigging in Australia ever since.

In 2005 Brianna was shortlisted into the top 10 of the Australian Spirit of Youth Awards [www.soya.com.au] along with Kisschasy, Wolf & Cub and Princess One Point Five, which was a tremendous achievement. 2006 saw Brianna shortlisted to top 5 for the Queensland RockIt awards and in 2007 Brianna was placed 3rd in the Barsoma Singer Songwriter Search. Most recently Brianna was selected as a member of the Top 12 for the popular television show Australian Idol. She was not “Idol” material as she didn’t have a backup of covers in her repertoire. She showed the general public that she was a songwriter, not concerned with trying to impress “judges”. Her first performance was a version of Regina Spektor’s “Fidelity”. This was unnerving to the judges as most of them hadn’t even heard the song before. This proved Brianna’s point that the show and judges were “old”. It was fortunate for Brianna that her song that she auditioned with “Jacqueline” was played frequently throughout her time on the programme and the response Brianna received was fantastic. Brianna’s time on the show was ultimately short-lived as she was definitely not going to fit into the “Idol” mould. She made the most of the opportunity and it was delightful to see something new and interesting on what is generally a television programme with very little originality.

So far this year Brianna has been tucked away indoors busy preparing her debut album release. She was also invited to be the Ambassador for the Statewide Butterfly Appeal Charity Fundraiser for the Hear and Say Centre. The Butterfly Appeal works to raise funds to help profoundly deaf children learn to hear and speak. Brianna wrote a song especially for the Charity called “Hush” as she was so inspired by the work that they do. Being completely deaf in one ear, Brianna is excited to be a part of a charity that she can really relate to.

Brianna studied a Bachelor of Popular Music at the Griffith Conservatorium of Music and in October 2005 self-produced and engineered her debut E.P "Spotted". It was a fantastic experience for her and was very proud with the response that she received from this release.

Brianna has recently independently released her debut full length album “Harlequin” after many months in the studio with producer Brendan Anthony. There is already a considerable buzz about the music and the accompanying album artwork. The songs incorporate a mixture of emotions as Brianna wanted to create something that was diverse and able to suit a variety of moods. Her producer, Brendan Anthony was one of Brianna’s lecturers at University and has recorded a range of artists throughout his career. Artists include the likes of INXS, Midnight Oil, Wendy Matthews, Jimmy Barnes and more recently George, Wheatus and The Ten Tenors.

The album is the result of almost 10 years of Brianna’s songwriting. Brianna currently is not signed to a record label and is self managed. She has both a Three Piece Acoustic band and a 7 piece full band and is looking to venture to the UK in the very near future.
